Rebecca and Derek first met during June orientation at Mount Saint Mary’s University. Over the next four years, they shared classes and developed a close friendship, but never dated. That all changed in January 2010 when both returned to “The Mount” for homecoming—where their friendship blossomed into something more.
At the time, distance was a challenge. Derek was living in Erie, Pennsylvania while Rebecca was in Baltimore, Maryland. Despite the six-hour drive between them, their relationship grew stronger. Fate intervened when Derek accepted a new job with Erie Insurance and was placed in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. After years of long-distance, the couple decided to move to Chambersburg, where Derek became a partner with Starr Insurance. Together, they bought their first home and added a new family member—their sweet Golden Retriever, Miss Harbor Marie.
Derek proposed during a family trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. What Rebecca thought was just another vacation quickly became one of the most meaningful moments of her life. A few weeks earlier, Derek had secretly traveled to Baltimore to ask Rebecca’s grandfather, parents, and sister for her hand in marriage. During the trip, they gathered for a family dinner at The Frosty Frog Café, a restaurant deeply meaningful to Derek’s family as it was once owned by his late Uncle Pat. While giving a speech and offering a prayer, Derek dropped to one knee and asked Rebecca to marry him. Completely surprised, she said “yes.”
Over the past 15 years, Rebecca and Derek have shared countless adventures and memories. Having been in each other’s lives since they were just 17 and 18 years old, they have truly grown up together—supporting one another through every stage of life. Their bond has only grown stronger, and they look forward to a lifetime of continuing to add to their “memory bucket.”
Rebecca and Derek wish to thank all of their wedding guests. Each person has played an important role in their journey, offering love, encouragement, and support throughout the years. They are beyond grateful to share this special day surrounded by such an incredible community and look forward to creating yet another unforgettable memory together.
We will not be hosting a formal breakfast the following morning, as we hope everyone can return home to spend Mother’s Day with their families. For those staying, the hotel restaurant and nearby favorites will be available.
